The Discovery Coast is centred around the townships of Agnes Water and Town of 1770 (also known as Seventeen Seventy). The Town of 1770 is famously named after the year in which James Cook and his crew came ashore from the ship Endeavour (James Cook is credited as the first to chart the east coast of Australia in 1770, which later resulted in the British colonising Australia in 1788).
The Town of 1770 is most famously known as the town where you can watch the sun rise and set over water.
The Discovery Coast is an exciting tourist area which is great for holidays on the beach, access to national parks and reef trips to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
