Cairns is a modern city at the center of Tropical North Queensland, where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. The region is also a gateway to the Atherton Tablelands and the Gulf Savannah region beyond the west of the Great Dividing Range.
Cairns is renowned for its festivals, day spas, beaches dining, esplanade and tropical resorts. Swimming enclosures are provided at most beaches during the stinger season, which is typically the same as the wet season which runs from November to May.
